Week 5 Core Beliefs - how to identify and rewrite your beliefs?

Your Internal Operating System Is Outdated (And It’s Running Your Life)

Your subconscious mind is a museum of the last hundred years, quietly running up to 90% of your daily choices on autopilot. You’re trying to build a fresh, bespoke life, but you’re navigating your day using your grandad’s 1940s scarcity code, or your parents' 1980s grind-until-you-break habits. This creates an internal short-circuit because you can’t change what you aren’t aware exists.

To break this loop, you must first understand the two distinct layers of software running in your mental basement: core beliefs and limiting beliefs. While they sound similar, they serve entirely different functions in your mental architecture.

Blueprint: Core Beliefs vs Limiting Beliefs

The fundamental difference between these two internal forces lies in their scope and nature.

  • Core Beliefs (The Root):

These are your deeply rooted, absolute assumptions about yourself, other people, and how the universe operates. They're global, structural, and completely neutral in definition. They answer the big life questions like, "Who am I?" or "Are we safe?". They can be highly positive and empowering, or dark and restrictive.

  • Limiting Beliefs (The Branch):

These are the specific, restrictive thoughts that actively hold you back from achieving concrete goals, taking risks, or executing your plans. They're inherently negative, conditional, and action-oriented. They always show up disguised as logical alibis like "I can't," "I shouldn't," or "Conditions aren't perfect yet."

Think of it as a tree. A limiting belief is almost always the direct, visible symptom growing out of an underlying, invisible core belief.

If your negative core belief is, "I am only valuable when I am being productive," your subconscious will branch out into a specific limiting belief like, "I don't have time to do my 20-minute workout today because I must keep grinding." You can't clip the branches without extracting the root.

How the Software Was Encoded?

These foundational files aren’t objective facts. They’re historical survival tactics passed down through generations, conditioned mental practices, or intense emotional moments from your past where you were deeply affected.

If you peek through your subconscious trap door, you’ll find old scripts inherited from entirely different cultural eras:

  • Scarcity Legacy (1920s–1940s):

Forged during global wars and depressions, leaving a file that says life is a battle for survival, and you must suffer to be worthy of success.

  • Status Legacy (1950s–1970s):

Built on the post-war boom, dictating that conformity is safety, you must toe the line, and what the neighbours think matters most.

  • Comparison Legacy (1980s–2000s):

Exploded alongside mass media and celebrity culture, insisting that you are what you own and success is a direct competition.

  • Hyper-Speed Legacy (2010s–2026):

Birthed by the instant gratification of algorithms, screaming that your worth is tied to digital approval and immediate hits.

Timeline: Past, Present & Future Effects

If left unchanged, this internal operating system acts as a self-validating identity lock. Here's how these files alter your reality across the timeline of your life.

⏪ Past (How They Formed Your Foundation)

In your past, these automated scripts successfully kept you safe from perceived emotional or psychological danger. Your subconscious recognised potential threats - like tribal rejection, criticism, or failure - and instantly triggered automatic habits to protect you. They helped your ancestors survive a rigid world, but they conditioned your early environment to expect limitation.

⏸️ Present (How They Cap Your Reality Right Now)

Right now, your brain is hit with millions of bits of information every second. To prevent overwhelm, your core beliefs act as a sorting office, filtering out opportunities and only letting in data that matches what you already believe to be true. This creates current short-circuits across your life:

  • Your Economic Ceiling:

Subconsciously sabotaging high-value financial opportunities because your basement file says wealth is dangerous or "not for people like us."

  • Your Physical Vitality:

Treating your body like an endless project to be fixed, exercising out of punishment, or skipping sessions because an old script says you’re naturally unhealthy.

  • Your Relationship Architecture:

Playing the role of the martyr, the pleaser, or the temporary fix because your internal profile is completely out of alignment.

⏩

Future (The Trajectory If Left Unchanged)

If you leave these files unedited, you will stay locked in a repetitive loop for the next 10, 20, or 30 years. Your brain will actively ignore easy wins and focus exclusively on obstacles. You will take the hardest, most exhausting route to every single goal just to prove your outdated basement files right. By the end of each year, you’ll look at your struggles and use those poor results to validate your old beliefs, rather than using your upgraded beliefs to create your results.

6 Advanced Scouts of Future Stagnation

Before a major wave of fear completely freezes your engine room, it sends out a team of advanced scouts to ensure your future looks exactly like your past. They don't wear monster masks; they dress in the sophisticated clothing of common-sense logic to sneak past your conscious guard:

  1. Indecision: It stands at your gateway and blocks you from drawing a firm line in the sand.

  1. Doubt: It pairs up with indecision to hyper-focus your senses on ground-level lack data.

  1. Worry: It acts as a continuous loop, running a non-stop horror movie of worst-case scenarios.

  1. Indifference: It masquerades as a detached, "I don’t care" attitude to protect your ego from the pain of failing.

  1. Over-Caution: It tells you to stay sensible and prudent, keeping you forever preparing, but permanently freezing before the big jumps.

  1. Procrastination: The physical emergency brake where your body refuses to execute, forcing your hands to reach for survival scrolling.

How to Update Your Internal Inventory?

You can't paper over a subconscious ghoul with a cheap positive quote on your lock screen. To evict these saboteurs, you must run a direct diagnostic audit.

Step 1: Downward Arrow Technique

To find the root, take a specific situation that made you feel anxious or stuck this week. Ask yourself: “If this thought were true, what would that mean about me?” Keep repeating the question with every subsequent answer until you hit a wall and find the underlying core belief.

Step 2: Generation Trace

Once you find the root script, trace its history to remove the personal weight. Ask yourself whose voice is actually speaking - is it yours, or is it an ancestral echo from your parents' or grandparents' era? When you see the actual age of the belief, it loses its status as absolute truth and becomes just an old file you can choose to delete.

Step 3: Instant Sovereign Flip

Slam the trap door shut on the static by immediately trading your old scripts for powerful updates:

  • Trade Security Fears for: "Value is infinite. My income is a direct mathematical reflection of the real-world problems I choose to solve."

  • Trade Validation Loops for: "I permanently end the people-pleasing compliance loop. I live entirely by my own design."

  • Trade Perfectionism for: "Perfection is just a fancy word for fear. It’s learning on the go which allows you to grow."

The reward for going internal is external freedom. We can walk around and have relative freedom of space, but we're internally nailed to the emotional stagnation cross of our past.

When to Call in a Technical Expert to Identify and Rewrite Your Beliefs?

Core belief work drills deep into your psychological foundations. While building absolute everyday awareness is the ultimate circuit breaker for daily habits, it should always be supported by a qualified specialist, counsellor, or professional therapist if you find yourself deeply affected or overwhelmed by heavy trauma.

There’s life-changing power in working with an expert technician to safely clear the wires when a script feels too heavy to shift alone.

By bringing these ancient files into the light, they completely lose their power over your future. When you drop the historical dead weight, you clear a clean slate to look forward, map out an organised plan, and step onto the pathway of your ultimate definite purpose.

Read this mini poem:

“At my core, is a world to explore, but the dragon of change says no. So I pack my bags, I attach the tags, and over the cliff I go.”

In week 5 of the main 12 Week APA Reset programme, you'll learn exactly what this refers to when addressing core and limiting software. But until then, look after yourself, and know that this is how you start to identify and rewrite your beliefs.
