An overview of life

Depending on multiple factors like age, culture, education, upbringing, personal experiences, current view points, future assumptions, past reflections, religion, spirituality, media influences, technology, personality, temperament, biology etc life in and of itself has an infinite amount of actualities - it depends on you.

If you're at the furthest northern point on earth and then go to the furthest southern point on earth; are you on the top or the bottom of the world?
If you're at the furthest northern point on earth and then go to the furthest southern point on earth; are you on the top or the bottom of the world?

It's perhaps fair to say that we all have a wildly differing view of life and with that assumption I'd like to direct you to the following train of thought.

Let's just talk one to one for a minute or so...

I have experienced a multitude of good and bad experiences in my time and I'm sure you have too but I'd like to ask you if you're happy with your life as it is?

No matter how you responded, please continue reading as you may find this insightful. Many people desire more from life since perfection is unattainable, yet there is always room for improvement.

ALLOW ME TO GET PERSONAL:

To me, life itself is a complex thing to describe and my take on life changes as often as my mood does. I have an ADHD brain so for me I often love life, wanting to take part in it and be the centre of all that happens within that day. Opposingly, my pendulum of being swings to the other side, wanting to tell the whole world to flip off whilst I drink myself into oblivion, forget everything and hopefully wake up the following day knowing that I didn't do or say something that was too embarrassing or cringe worthy the previous day/night.

There have been many regrettable consequences to my drinking sessions and sometimes if I drank too much, I'd wake up the day after still half drunk - it was usually these days in particular I learned to become very aware of. This is because they sometimes led to me to continue drinking and then my emotions might trigger all sorts of past pain, current truth & circumstantial BS. This would rise up & demand expression.

It was like the emotions had been locked up for so long that up on their unexpected freedom, they simply raged with injustice. I found myself in an overwhelming, emotional state of despair many times but now I've finally done something about that - I've taken control of myself.

Give me some skin!

I'd love to say that I'm a uniquely balanced and grounded individual but I'm far from it. On days when my anxiety seems low and my depression seems mild, I somehow find a way to go out into the world and be a productive and valued member of society. On other days the sun shines too bright, the birds chirp too loud and people are just zombies with a plague I'd rather not be infected with.

*The point I'm making is this - we all have these ups n downs. Life is full of them. Because we're all so different we experience the world in ways that another person might find absolutely absurd. You'll know this for sure if you're dealing with an addiction or a depression, maybe a relationship breakdown or unforeseen life event took place. You certainly won't often find people who totally get you because most people simply won't.

It's as impossible for someone to fully understand and relate to every single aspect of your life's struggles as it is for water to cascade upwards down a waterfall.

It's crucial to grasp this from the beginning because whenever we aim to make changes in life, it indicates that we've acknowledged the need for something to change.

Sit tight...!!! ADHD ACTIVATED...

This usually doesn't come from a simple and uneventful moment of clarity, whilst sat quietly on a park bench, with a bottle of water, joyously feeding the ducks or birds leftover sandwiches that were made with thoughtfulness and peace the night before.

No no no, it's usually the traumatic, 'kicked off to fcuk' moment we had or the 'lost my sh^t' episode - maybe it was the ever socially hysterical 'embarrassed the nipples from my chest' situation where all insecurities seemed to pile on top of us into one singular concoction of public overreaction to something - trigger point - WTF!

And breathe...all I'm saying is, no matter what got you to this point, even if you're actually quite good and randomly came across this, you're still reading now - so strap in because this could be interesting to people for different reasons. My second point is this...

*When a person makes a decision to change; all change is possible as long as your desire to change is greater than your desire to remain the same.

I'll explore the topic of desire in another post, as it can originate from either a positive or negative place within us. For now, consider it as...

'a deep feeling of discomfort that anchors you in guilt, shame, doubt, regret, and/or fear.'

When you want to stop these feelings consuming your experience, I call that the "Golden Ticket to Change."

Once you couple this type of desire for something better, with a mindset of awareness & an attitude of positivity; you are now better placed to create new behaviours and actions that can result in an improved life experience.

My third point is simply this - if you believe your life has no purpose then it will typically feel shallow, empty and insignificant but know this - no one's life has purpose until you give it meaning.

Some people stumble upon their purpose when they're still children or young teenagers and they have a clear and definite vision of the future they want. Others drift from impulse to impulse not even questioning their future or what they want to do with their time well into adulthood. All I'm saying here is that, you can create purpose as soon as you're ready to face change and that means not running from yourself.

Some people are aware of their past & how it affected them, so they use that awareness to guide present and future thinking - to learn from harsh lessons of bad choices, traumas and wrong doings - to use that pain from the past to re-shape their self image in the workshops of self-reflection - to build strength, determination and drive that fuel their every thought, inspire their every desire and spark the passion for every physical action that they take and why?

Because if their pain was left unacknowledged and ignored, covered up with whatever distraction one chooses or chose from the past to numb the pain, they knew that it would eventually consume them. It almost consumed me several times to the point that, for reasons I still don't fully understand, I would not be able to write this to you - you would not be able to read it - then my life would have no meaning.

But my life has meaning because I made that decision to change. I felt it's pulsating desire within me to just try one last time. I ignored the doubt, I ignored the voices of control saying stay put, you know you'll fail, you always do - why bother! Against all odds I found a way to be here with you now and if I'm living my dream, then you must be apart of it too and if that's true, then we're more connected than what the BS of modern day society tells us right?

We were never meant to be alone; we were meant to flourish in a community, bound together by commonalities of peace, unity and togetherness. Not separated by individuality but united because of it. Not grouped only by personal preferences but celebrated because of our uniqueness.

This is what I'd like to leave you with before you read more posts...

We as human beings are all creatures of habit. Most of our habits are formed at such a young age that we don't even realise they are there (sub-conscious). Yet they govern just about everything we do (Paradigms/Beliefs). Our early conditioning, with no exception to humanity, was not programmed by us. It served a purpose of initial survival and we must be grateful for that. But there are many things on top of that which still hold us back. If you doubt this then look no further than the results you're currently getting.

This is not to shame or guilt you, this is to inspire you. You are not an insignificant, random anomaly who doesn't deserve love, success and abundance in all its forms. You are not a life that the world can live without. You are not a light that can be diminished by any amount of darkness.

You are a beacon of light so powerful that the heavens can see it, with a heart so pure that the universe resonates with it and you have a mind so amazing you'd be lost without it.

The final point, I promise now, it's this...

*I don't know what you're doing in life but I know what I'm doing and I'm here to help as many people as I possibly can through words. If I did this as a video I think even I would have to swipe the other way. When it comes to changing, we can all do it.

Some of us just have a few more layers to unwrap before we get to the really good stuff but if you've ever played 'pass the parcel', (with the chair circle, music n a rubbish gift, wrapped in a million sheets of newspaper), know this; your centre will not be a disappointment - it's the layers of crap on top that we need to peel away and it starts with a decision, rooted in desire to be better, by wanting more for ourself.

Some people might have no idea who this is - Joey from Friends, being Joey from Friends.

Take just one day at a time, one layer at a time and you will eventually get to your own unique and wonderful centre - this my friends, is not the pursuit of happiness - it's self-awareness in its truest and most majestic authentic form.

Self-awareness is how we view life - 'an overview of life' isn't our life at all. It's everybody else's.

Something to keep in mind:

You've probably started life over several times and are sick of it. Maybe stuck in a loop you don't want to be in and don't know how to change it. Possibly feeling lost, like it's not even worth it anymore...

Please don't give up on yourself - there is a way to change these cycles, ways of thinking, ways of behaving and ways of living. Keep at it, you're possibly closer to change than you even realise and change starts with a desire to be better.

Better is a good word - it's growth. If you only aim to be a little better today than you were yesterday, then you're already a million miles ahead of where you were the day before!

Ponder this:

'Things can get better' or 'things could be worse,' which one's positive? Are they both positive or am I trying to trick you? This is something we'll really sink our teeth into soon.

This could potentially look wrong, I hold my hands up on this one!

Thanks for staying with me.

'Open your arms to change, but don't let go of your values'.

  • A-Zen of Life by Dalai Lama - we'll explore this too because it's a wonderfully powerful life map. But quotes mean nothing if you don't have the understanding behind them.

They will lift you for a few moments but then fade into emptiness - our emptiness is often where all our bad energy comes from so let's start becoming aware of this space because after every positive saying you tell yourself, there's a response and it's usually a feeling.

If that feeling seems like emptiness then we need to sort that asap because if we leave it for too long, that same emptiness will fill up with all sorts of negativity and if you're not consciously aware of what's going on, this sneaky little thing will fill itself to the brim with guilt, shame, doubt, regret, fear & sadness.

We'll explore them all so don't worry - you've got this!
