Paradigms/Beliefs

What am I talking about?

I can already hear some you saying, 'oh not this rubbish, I've heard it all before'.

Please consider this before dismissing it, as it could transform your life in unimaginable ways. Most importantly, don't be afraid to look within yourself; you won't discover anything you aren't already aware of but you might just free yourself from whatever is weighing you down.

Just have faith, it will all become clear!

There is a way to do this without overloading yourself and negatively impacting your mood - although self-reflection is difficult, it's also the most freeing exercise you will ever do and trust me, you will thank yourself everyday in your future for sticking at this.

However, this isn't deep rooted psychoanalysis or counselling, it's just a person talking to another person about something that probably seems quite daunting, just hear me out, it's ok.

Let's do it bit by bit...

'A paradigm is a multitude of habits passed down from generation to generation, and they manifest themselves in many ways.'

To understand a paradigm, look at it like this:

  • A paradigm is a mental program in your subconscious mind that controls your habitual behaviour, aka beliefs into actions that stemmed from thoughts (your own or from others - maybe even a movie, a song, a best friend, a lover)

  • It shapes how you view yourself, the world, and opportunities - potential limiting beliefs

  • Most people are unaware of their paradigms, which are often inherited or formed through repetition in childhood and into adolescence (teen years) as well as adulthood (even older people have paradigms and they can be formed at any stage of life)

  • These paradigms can limit your potential and keep you stuck in patterns that don't serve you, therefore creating the all too familiar feeling of 'Groundhog Day'

  • not all paradigms are bad, some will serve you very very well

Ok let's pause...take a few deep breaths, feel free to re-read this a few times before we continue. I will explain it later on though...ok let's carry on.

Your paradigm affects your success and determines your success or failure more than your education or skills. This is because people with impressive degrees may struggle in life because their behaviour is controlled by limiting paradigms/beliefs.

It really doesn't matter how smart you think you are or actually are, paradigms affect everyone, no exceptions - typically we have a combination of positive and negative ones.

To achieve lasting change and success, you must identify and change your paradigms,

not just gather information or set goals - this is so important because as you read through this site you'll build up an awareness of how all of this works and many people unfortunately focus on the easier stuff at the start such as goal setting.

This is a tough topic to understand - our beliefs shape us. The wrong beliefs limit our experiences but the right ones set us free!

'You've got to change your paradigm if you're going to reach your goals. It's an absolute essential.'

  • repetition is key to changing your paradigm

  • it requires constant, spaced repetition – the same way it was built

  • simply reading something once or setting a goal isn't enough

  • nor is creating positive affirmations or writing a new life script

  • you need to consistently expose yourself to new ideas (thoughts) and behaviours (habits) to rewire your subconscious mind

Let's add some more information here that will help - just keep going!

An idea, in this instance is referring to a thought. Thoughts are ideas and to start the replacing/rewriting/reprogramming of your previously identified paradigm - often referred to as a belief; you will need to introduce a new and typically opposite or healthier alternative thought/idea.

Say what???

Yep, I was Steve Harvey in this GIF. The first time I heard this I was a little overwhelmed but it gets easier to understand the further we go into it. There's more to say but I'm purposefully trying to keep it as minimal as I can without just saying-

  • this is this

  • that is that

  • do this

  • then do that

Job done!!!

Let's do a summary but add a few things:

"a paradigm is a multitude of ideas that are

fixed in our subconscious minds. Ideas that are fixed in our subconscious

mind are known as habits. A habit is an idea that expresses itself without any conscious thought: you just automatically move."

-- Bob Proctor, Changing Your Paradigm

Let's explore this:

I'll let Bob explain because this guy has changed my life and it's a crying shame that he passed away a few years ago but watch this short clip and I'll share some more with you.

Now look at this clip, Bob explains in simple terms what you have to do - obviously we haven't delved into this yet but we will. This is just one basic starter exercise. For now, just watch this...

Bob is a great speaker and says what I can't through spoken words. What you will notice about him is that he speaks with such passion and clarity that it's almost impossible to misinterpret his message.

'A person’s paradigm has nothing to do with what they learned in school. If a person has a bad paradigm, they’re going to lose, even if they have a great education. Their education is not going to help them.'

What this means is that so many of us are driven into action through our thoughts. We tell ourself that we need to go to work and to be successful, we need to earn enough money, we need to do this and that and whilst this maybe true, something hugely significant is being overlooked here.

What's being overlooked is that we don't always understand that there's a bigger script or dialogue of thoughts that are actually driving our behaviours, specifically in how we go out into the world and take action.

Whatever we believe to be true directly affects what happens in our lives - most of us have a positive conscious mind but act in opposition to that - that's because the subconscious mind (automated mind) is running the show.

Once you attain awareness of any and all negative or limiting paradigms aka beliefs, which only started out as someone else's words going into your mind; you must be willing to:

  • acknowledge it

  • then choose to accept or reject it

  • then originate a polar opposite or healthy positive alternative, of your choosing

  • then repeat this in your mind, over & over, from time to time, day in, day out, until it has been committed to memory

This is how you start to change your paradigm but one thing has been left out of this so far and that's with intention - it's emotion.

Emotion is driving force of most, if not all, human behaviour.

It's important to realise that it's emotions/feelings that carry the weight when words are spoken. And frequently, most of your limiting beliefs have an emotional baggage attached to them. But we'll explore this in more detail another time.

We're almost there.

REMEMBER - a paradigm is a multitude of habits, fixed within our subconscious minds but these habits often come with emotional anchors, weighing us down.

To truly go your own way in life, you must first look down into the murky waters, find the anchor that holds you still, grip tight, hoist that anchor upwards and rest it onboard your vessel. Then you may sail wherever you wish but that extra weight will soon become heavy and ultimately slow you down again until it is released for good and a lighter, more manoeuvrable one takes its place.

This is the essence of a paradigm/belief shift. Let's quickly go over this again...

Paradigms are truly wonderful when you get them right, you can do wonderful things in life but until these are addressed you run the risk of always being slowed down by the weight of something that probably never belonged to you in the first place. And if it does belong to you, all the more reason to change it.

This clip illustrates the simplicity and complexity of you going on a journey within, with the intention of freeing yourself from your limitations whether someone or you, yourself anchored your experience of life.

You can do this, it's within your capabilities, even if you're weighed down by doubts and fears, you have way it takes to change it. To change it so it serves you, to enhance you and all those you love and are responsible for. But heed this polite warning - you are responsible first and foremost to yourself to live the life you want.

There is nothing selfish about wanting for yourself. Sometimes in life, our greatest achievement will be setting ourselves free from that which prevents us from being our truest and best version! A humbling fact of life is that we have the power to change it all and too many lovely and deserving people never reach their fullest potential because paradigms held them back.

I'm well aware this isn't a comprehensive 'how to change your paradigms/beliefs' blog but it's important we establish the roots first before moving on. Basic understanding will expand the mind and change your perspective - once we change our perspective we start to create awareness of what's really going on within us.

Our perspective matters because it's how we see the world. (there will be a post on 'perspective' and the other 5 HIGHER FACULTIES of the mind)

For now, I'll let Bob explain the simple link. In advance, he's going to be talking about how we experience the world using our 5 senses; see, hear, smell, taste & touch. What we need to know, is that we have these higher faculties of the mind but we rarely, if at all, use them to our advantage.

Paradigms & beliefs systems are complicated but simply put; it's our subconscious programming that's giving us our life experience/results.

At the end of that clip, Bob mentioned desire - please make sure you read that blog. It's the foundation of all permanent change. Desire to change is powerful - this is why knowing what you want for your life is essential. Having clearly defined life & personal goals, that you get emotionally involved with through the higher faculty of imagination and the creation of a definite plan towards that goal; results in a monumental paradigm/belief system change, which will alter the way you live your life.

HOWEVER...BE VERY CAREFUL OF THE SEEDS YOU PLANT. If the seeds are from a desperate and lacking emotional state of...'wanting change yesterday and tomorrow is too far away' - those seeds will grow, no matter what. But don't be expecting long-term, stable, abundance. It won't happen...INSTEAD...

Be specific about the positive seed/idea/goal. For example. You can be desperate for change and lack the things you want in life, whether it be a loving and nourishing relationship or a career that brings financial and personal growth & abundance but; YOU MUST CONSCIOUSLY CHOOSE TO AIM FOR SOMETHING THAT IS ROOTED IN DESIRE, DRIVEN BY PURPOSE & MAGNETISED BY INSPIRATIONAL EMOTIONS OF CREATIVE IMAGINATION.

What does that mean?

Takeaway Message:

There is no guarantee in life, sometimes all you can do is your absolute best and reach 100% effort. There is no such thing as 101%. We merely lower the bar of expectation by heightening the perceived effort we put into life.

I have failed and failed, over and over for as long as I can remember. It was painful, it was embarrassing at times and it most certainly lead me towards negative thinking, feelings and actions. BUT I started my change journey because my desire to change was greater than my desire to remain the same - you can do that too.

It wasn't over night and it won't stop bad things from happening but it will absolutely make you stronger and more resilient. This information, this knowledge, these suggestions etc will hopefully do for you what they've done for me - GIVE YOU HOPE!

Hope to try again, hope to develop an understanding of your mind, hope to learn new strategies, hope to get to know the real you, hope to re-shape yourself, your life and your experience. It starts with a simple question...

Despair, repetitious negativity and full on 'doom & gloom' will always be out there but you can step away from that by making what's inside you the real heaven on earth. Most of us have masked our true self, suppressed our true emotions, locked away our true desires of our child like aspirations of the future we once fantasied of.

It's time to get that spark back - to step back into our unique individuality - to turn fantasy of thought into imagination of reality. You can make changes happen, changes are happening all the time, whether we're aware of it or not - sometimes we don't fully understand how successful we are at creating our own reality because we are consumed with the negativity of the world around us.

But the world isn't a negative place. In fact it's the complete opposite. The world, this earth is beautiful in every way but it's the people upon it that make it seem hostile, fearful and out to consume everybody.

Change the way you look at the world, yourself & others then watch the miracle of transformation take place, as it transforms you, little by little, one step at a time. Through some difficult self-reflection you will gain self-awareness. What you choose to do with that, is business only of yours - I'm not here to judge but offer a perspective of potential difference that could help you make a few alterations to the way you perceive things...

Have a great day, a great night and a great life. Greatness exists within you. If you think you need a miracle, then become the miracle. Peace out and watch this final clip.

Happy reading, happy watching and happy living!
